Here at Kerhaven the focus is to breed within the parameters of the standard.
I breed both rough and smooth collies.
While Champions have been and will continue to be born here at Kerhaven, this is really not the main purpose of my kennel. The primary concern here is to breed not only collies of beauty that conform well to the standard, but to produce family companions that are sound, healthy, long lived, intelligent, and of proper collie temperament.
All puppies come from parents who have had various genetic health checks done. All puppies are raised in the house, socilized well, lead broken prior to sale, have had complete vet checks and all age appropriate innoculations and deworming. Most kerhaven collies are free of CEA! This is an inherited eye problem that in its mildest form will have no significant bearing on the dogs ability to see and lead a perfectly normal life. However some more severe forms of this affliction can and have resulted in blindness. I have choosen to breed away from CEA and to produce normal eyed collies. When something is as easy to breed away from as CEA , I personally, cannot justify failing to do so.
However my primary goal is over-all soundness and good health and yes of course beauty!!
All puppies sold as companion/pet are placed under a CKC non-breeding agreement or if in states, AKC limited registration. Spay/neuter is something you need to discuss with your vet.
